Preliminary Survey on Sequele of Japanese B Encephalitis in Children

Abstract
|
|
|
The authors carried out follow up study on 45 cases suffering from postencephalitic sequele who had been admitted to Chonnam University Hospital and St. Columban´s Hospital in Mokpo city during past 2 years from 1977 to 1978.
They were evaluated by the questionnaires and the following results were obtained.
1. Overall incidence of sequele of Japanese B encephalitis in children was 21 % .
2. Among the total cases of 45, 28 were boys and the most cases were between 6 and 12 years of age.
3.The incidences of sequeles were in order of Emotional and behavior disturbances 29 cases(66%), Motor disturbances 20 cases(44%), Intellectual disturbances 18 cases(40%), disturbances of Vegetative function 17 cases(39%), Speech disturbances 13 cases(30%), Memory disturbances 7 cases(15%), Epilepsy 5 cases(11% ), Sensory abnormalities 5 cases(11%) and Sleep disturbances 5 cases(11 % ).
